ISAIAH 55

All the people are invited to seek salvation

1 O ye, all who are thirsty, come to the waters, and he that hath no money, come, buy and eat! yes, come, buy without money and without price, wine and milk.

2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread? and your labor on what does not satisfy? listen to me carefully, and eat what is good, and delight itself in fatness.

3 Incline your ear, and come unto me; I hear, and your soul shall live; because with you I will make an everlasting covenant, giving you the firm kindnesses promised to David.

4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of the peoples.

5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation thou knowest not, and a nation that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel; because he hath glorified thee.

6 Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; him return to the Lord, have mercy on them; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth and make it bring forth and bud, and give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

11 So shall my word that goes forth from my mouth: it shall not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and peace be led; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 In the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; which will be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
