MATEUS 4
The Temptation of Jesus
Mt.1: 12-13 Lk.4: 1-13
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 And Jesus said unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil took him into the holy city, and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple,
6 And said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down hence; for it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee; and they will hold you in their hands, that you never dash upon a stone.
7 And Jesus said unto him, It is written also, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again the devil took him to a very high mountain; and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt worship me.
10 And Jesus said unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.'
11 Then the devil left him; and, behold, the angels came and ministered unto him.
